The Garden House is an 18 acre estate, set in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are developing a sustainable land use project with a focus on wildlife, education, therapeutic and community benefit.
In the last year, we have provided opportunities for the local community, including people with varying physical and mental abilities to enjoy the estate at The Garden House through The Growth Team from Surrey Choices, The Welcome Project from Catalyst, The Halow Project, and Surrey Wildlife Trust, and we have had help with our orchard from young people at Skillway in Godalming.
The project is continually evolving, following the opportunities that present themselves and working with the people around us. For example, we recently agreed with Merrist Wood College/Guildford College to offer work experience placements.
To date, we have created a new woodland, planted 1500 trees and shrubs, created a new large pond with an area specifically for educational use; have planted a diverse orchard; planted new hedgerow, and we are currently working on a new wildlife friendly productive garden.
The Garden House incorporates a privately managed equestrian facility, run by professional event rider, Nana Dalton, which aligns with the wider aims of the project.
The Vision for The Garden House was developed by Andrew and Caroline Hunter, the proprietors and sponsors.
